Hi Readers,
In any work environment, teamwork is significant. The University is not an exception to this rule, and at the moment, a Big-Brother-feel is pervasive especially when it comes to paperwork and funding.
Everything we do has to show that we're DIRECTLY helping the students. This linear view is not only limiting, but it also disregards other aspects of writing center operations ( thus not providing [moral] support to help it succeed in helping students ).
Not only is advertising the services of the Writing Center not covered in the Grant, there is also an assumption that we're picking up work where someone left off. However, the present reality is that we need to build plenty of awareness and relations from the ground up. Sometimes it's just frustrating that the Grant's terms don't seem to value this necessity. If we can't take time to inform students, faculty, and staff about the Writing Center, then how can they know about its resources?
The emphasis in being nitpicky and extremely meticulous doesn't give us the assurance that we're trusted. It's as if funding has blinded them and their judgment. So whether it's the Writing Center coordinating with administration, or other departments, TRUST from all sides is important.
